YELLOW TULIP

I am singled out,
picked for my bright yellow petals
that cannot deny my trembling heart.

I searched for light, it blinded me,
drew me towards it,
undressed me.

Injecting its hardness,
my petals wilfully opened,
a black star stamped inside.

There was no denial.

I was weak and bent low
when they came for me.
They snapped me from my roots,

Stuck me inside,
a sticky slime at my feet.
I drowned in their cleansing.

And after the flames,
the stack
belched
my ashes.
