UNPINNED GRENADES

You laid out your love like
a red carpet
so soft and plush
I was afraid of its perfection

I have unpinned the grenades
watch and wait in the wings
like some quiet lunatic

now in this chaos I remember
the peace you brought
the peace I turned my back upon

an irregular thud in
a cage of bone reminds me
I am still alive

I remember those I have watched die
how easily a heart stops

"My love is a well" you breathed
"For you to dip in and drink deep"

I chose to drown you in it instead
held you under until
your words were no more

I hated your weakness

I hate mine more

Misty
