DALE VIEW GAYLE

"Sleep to the noise of running water"
Waterwheel still in the empty mill
Dutiful mother, dutiful daughter
Waterfall pounds and treadmill grinds

Three hooded crows in the winter tree
I lie on my good ear, turning a deaf ear
Three wise monkeys inhabit me
Waterfall now silent, eyes shut tight

Can't stop things happening, but no need to look
What the eye doesn't see, my heart needn't grieve over
Pretend that my life is an open book
Toes and fists clenched, my lips are sealed

Gemstone polisher in the Hawes Rock shop smoothing
Rounding and rounding multifaced diamond
Rough edges tossed in grit smoothing and soothing
Rounded and grounded; ground down, down
